Oscar Wright
Oscar and Georga Wright are newcomers to Barber County. Oscar transferred into
Skelly Gasoline Plant as superintendent in May, 1974.
Georga Martin Wright was born in Coffeyville, Kansas moving to Osage County,
Oklahoma, as a child. Oscar was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He moved to Oklahoma
as a teenager. They met while in school and were married in March, 1937, in St.
Thomas Episcopal Church in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
Oscar has spent 36 years with Skelly Oil Company, now, Getty Oil Company, having
worked in different plants in Osage County and in Stephens County in Oklahoma; also
at two different plants in Lea County, New Mexico.
They raised three children, two girls and a boy. Their son, Benny Brock Wright,
at age 25, ded in July, 1974, after they had moved to Barber County. Their girls
Teddy Presgrove, lives in Mayesville, Oklahoma with her husband and two sons and
their daughter; Sheila Joe Lawrence, lives in De Queen, Arkansas, with her husband
and two chidlren, a son and a daughter.
Georga and Oscar enjoy living in Medicine Lodge and are making lasting friendships
while here. They are both members of St. Marks Episcopal Church. Oscar has a few
more years before he retires, and he is hopeful that Getty Oil Company will let him
finish out those years in Barber County.
