George Zimmerman
Elizabeth Landis, fourth child of Felix Landis and Elizabeth Strickler
Landis, was born in Pennsylvania in 1858. She married Amos Wiedner in 1875.
They had two daughters.
Annie Wiedner, my mother, was born in Pennsylvania and came to Kansas
with her parents in covered wagons. They lived near Topeka, Kansas until
1881, when they came to Barber county and settled three and a half miles
south of what is now known as Gerlane, Kansas.
Annie was married to George Zimmerman, Sr. They traveled by horseback
on their honeymoon. They made their home at the Wiedner farm. They raised
stock, cattle, hogs, chickens, and farmed with horses and small machinery.
Large garderns were a must in order to feed the families.
Seven children were born to this union: George, Alice, Robert, Ruth,
Marjorie, Ralph, and Lucylle.
In 1922 they left the farm to live in Kiowa. Their son, George, took
over the operation of the farm.
George and Annie celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at their
home in Kiowa September, 1946, with all their children and many grandchildren
present.
