Howard Shippy

Howard Shippy came to Medicine Lodge in 1949 to work at the National
Gypsum Company plant. He married Lucy Mae Knowles of Sun City, Kansas.
Lucy Mae lived near Sun City and attended Kling Rural School and Sun
     City High School.
Howard and Lucy Mae had four children: Max (who with his wife Yvonne
and two children resides in Medicine Lodge), J.D. (now living in Salina,
Kansas), Marcella (with her husband Don Wittenauer and daughter lives
in Port Orchard, Washington), and Roger (who lives in Haviland, Kansas,
with his wife Patricia and daughter).
As the children became teenagers, Lucy Mae started working at the
Lincoln Library and taking continuing education classes from Kansas State
Teachers College, Emporia; later she became the librarian at the local
     library.
Howard continued to work at the gypsum plant until 1976 when illness
forced his retirement. Howard died on December 21, 1979.
