Christopher C. Armstrong, son of Christopher and Margaret (Brown)
Armstrong was born in County Fermanagh, Belfast, Ireland on June 7, 1864.
He came over and settled in Illinois when he was 19. His oldest brother
came to America first and sent for each brother and sister as he earned
enough money for their fare. Six came over and four stayed in Ireland.
Elizabeth Jane Thompson's parents, David and Sarah (Bartley) Thompson
also came to America from Ireland, but for quite a different reason. One
parent was a Protestant and the other was Catholic. No one would have
anything to do with them so they left Ireland for Illinois. Elizabeth was
the first child of the family to be born in America, on February 16, 1874.
Elizabeth and Christopher ended up working for the same family near Reynolds,
Illinois, and thus became acquainted. They were married September 25, 1895
at Boden, Illinois. Two children were born near Preemption, Illinois, Ross
Montclair (1896) and Viola Elizabeth (1899). They moved to Clearwater,
Kansas in 1902. Christopher came out first on a train in the "immigrant car."
He was allowed to bring ten head of livestock with him. Chris bought the
farm east of Isabel in 1904 from the Ratlief family. He paid $5 an acre
for the north quarter, which was known as a school quarter. Chris put out
the spring crop in 1905 and the family moved into two granaries while Mr.
Hunt from Isabel built their two story home. They moved into their house
in November. Their middle child, Earl, was born in October while they were
still living in the granaries (1905). They had two more children Morton
James (1910) and Velma Maye (1917). They lived on the home place until
Earl was married and took it over. Then they moved a couple miles east to
a place they bought in Kingman County. Christopher owned and farmed 1000
acres of land in Pratt and Kingman Counties. Christopher died October 6,
1955; Elizabeth died March 12, 1960. Both are buried in the Nashville
     cemetery.
Ross married Ollie Murray. They had six children: Claudina, Victor,
Dale, Junior LeRoy, Mary Elizabeth and Joyce. Vie married Alvonso (Von)
Murray. They had one son Don Richard. Earl married Marie Fetters. Their
children were: Darlene, Donald, Eunice Jean, Kenneth, Robert James (Jim),
and Patricia Sue. Morton married Irene Patterson and then Amber Wendt.
Morton and Amber have three children: Larry, Lowell and Louise. Velma
married Harold Charter and they have two children: Gary and Diane Elizabeth.
Vie died in 1967, Ross and Velma died in 1976.
