James and Fern Bell moved in May of 1963 to the former Hank Wehling
farm. Both had been raised in the Union Chapel area.
Their family consists of three children: Rita, Lawrence, and David.
Rita is married to John Kimball of Medicine Lodge. John is a custom wheat
cutter, farmer, mechanic, and welder. John serves as an elder in the
Christian Church. Rita is active in the church, PTA, Girl Scouts, Awanas,
and Flying Eagle Unit. Their children are: Doug, Michael (deceased), Anita,
     Justin, and Fonda.
Lawrence married Ruthie McLemore Mills. Lawrence is a custom wheat
cutter, welder and carpenter. He and Ruthie live in Medicine Lodge. Their
children are Michelle Mills, Jamie, and Russel Bell.
David married JOyce JOnes, and they live on the Austin farm. Their
children are: Melanie, Ginger, David James, and Lucas. David and Joyce farm
and drive county school busses and Joyce has a beauty shop. David is on the
County Extension Executive Board and is on the school board. Both are active
     in the Awanas.
James keeps busy with his cattle and with farm work. For 28 years, Fern
has been a 4-H leader (23 years with the B-Square Club). She is also active
in the Valley Builders EHU, Stich and Chatter Quilting Club, and the Congenial
Club, in the Union Chapel area. Both are memebers of the Christian Church
     of Medicine Lodge.
In recent years, the Bells have hosted I.F.Y.E. students from Finland,
Uruguay, India, Thailand, and Korea. That was a learning, challenging and
     unforgettable experience!
In past years Fern was C.W.F. President, served on the Home Ec Advisory
(both Barber County and the District, representing 7 counties), and the
     County Extension Executive Board.
          The biggest adjustment moving to the Isabel area, was the flat country;
we both always lived in the Gyp Hills of Barber County and how we missed them
and the grass land! We became adjusted quickly and like it immensely here
and wouldn't want to ever live so far out in the country again, especially
at this time in our lives.
