Charles Blackwelder
Charles was born in the Sawyer community, about two miles southwest
of his home place in 1886. His family moved 3 1/2 miles north and one miles
west of Isabel.
Charles married Jennie Armitstead in 1912. Jennie was born in Richfield,
Kansas in 1889 and later moved to their home north of Isabel. After their
marriage they lived 3 miles north and 1/4 west of Isabel. Their sons Forest,
Max and Dell were born there. In 1920 they moved 3/4 mile west.
Jennie was a charter member and the first president of Ashton EHU in 1917.
She was MYF leader and teacher at Isabel Methodist Church for many years.
She also taught Sunday School at Ashton.
Charles was a member of Ashton School Board for several years; he was
on the board when the brick school was built. He served on the Farmers Co-op
Elevator and Hardware Board. He attended church at Ashton and Isabel Methodist
Church, and held numerous offices in both.
Charlie died in 1951 and Jennie in 1980. Both were proud to be a part of
the Isabel-Ashton community.
