Harold Blackwell
Harold Blackwell (born May 27, 1912) went to Wichita Business College
and Friends University after high school. He met Georgia Browning (born
July 16, 1910) who graduated from Wichita Hospital as a registered nurse.
Harold married Georgia and they had three children, Ben (born October 28,
1939), Bert (born 4, 1941) and Donna (born August 13, 1945). The children
grew up on the Bert Blackwell farmstead located five miles southwest of
Isabel. They made many fond visits to Edna Blackwell's house which was
located next door to the Isabel Consolidated School. (She is well remembered
by the school for the numerous floral arrangements she provided from her
gardens.) During these years, Harold farmed and Georgia worked as a
registered nurse at Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
After the children were grown, Harold gave up farming and became a
hospital administrator at Oxford, Nebraska. He furthered his education by
taking hospital administration courses at Columbia University in New York,
New York. At his death at age 60 of a massive heart attack, he was Administrator
of the Ellsworth, Kansas Hospital; an 82 bed hospital. Georgia then moved
to Alma, Nebraska and became their hospital administrator. Georgia is now
retired and lives in Rose Hill, Kansas.
Ben attended Emporia State Teachers College majoring in Education. He
then married Janet Lauby and they ahd two sons, Brad and Scott. Janet, Brad
and Scott now live in Jacksonville, Florida. Brad has a son Damien. Ben lives
in Seattle, Washington where he is an administrator for school unions. After
marrying Carolyn he also adopted her two sons, Daran and Kip.
Bert joined the U.S. Navy and enrolled in NROTC. There he obtained his
bachelors degree in Psychology from Kansas University. He resigned from the
Navy as a Lieutenant after eleven years. He ahs two sons Eric and Jason. He
married Sharon Meese and they have a daughter. They live in McCook, Nebraska
where Bert is an Attorney at Law (Washburn Universty).
Donna married Ralph Krug and they had a son Rodney. Donna attended Pratt
community College and Wichita State University majoring in Business Administration.
She is now Postmaster in Waukegan, Illinois.
