Alvin Doras (Jack) Blue, born June 5, 1909 at Wichita, Kansas, son of
     Richard Dayton and Sarah Elizabeth (Adkins) Blue. He moved to Isabel as a
     small boy.
          Doras as he was clled by his parents until age 3, was being chased by
     a gaggle of geese, his uncle Grant Tyson called out, "Jack Wart get up on
     this porch". The nickname stuck and he was known as Jack thereafter.
          As a young boy he was always busy. He used to grease windmills, unload
     boxcars of coal for the Santa Fe Railroad, and was a mail carrier's helper
     for Blonde Edwards in bad weather.
          He attended school in Isabel through his 8th grade year. Then went to
     work for Emmit Pickering at the Golden Rule Station.
          He married Viola Artemisha Oller on June 8, 1932 at Pratt, Kansas. She
     was born August 30, 1912 at Abbyville, Kansas. She was one of 13 children 
     born to Russel Eugene Oller and Bessie Peark (Marteney) Oller.
          Viola attended Fairview Country School between Isabel and Cunningham.
     She had her first job at age 14. She worked confinement cases, caring for
     women and their newborns.
          Jack and Viola's first established business was a cream station and
     grocery store. The store was located on the first floor of the IOOF Hall.
     (The building is still used as the IOOF Hall). After three years the
     business was sold to Fred Hubner.
          In 1943 Jack established a business with Earl Meairs. Calling the 
     business Meairs and Blue Appliance and Supply. At the same time, Jack also
     operated a separate business called Blue's Salvage. He continued to operate
     the businesses through the years along with other endeavors. He operated a
     hamburger stand at the Indian Peace Treaty. A fireworks stand every July at
     the Pratt County Lake, and along with Viola worked at the Kansas State Fair
     from 1947 - 1966.
          He salvaged the Garden Sugar Beet plant in Garden City, Kansas in 1956-57.
     He had an established l]novelty route in much of western and central Kansas.
     He enjoyed cantaloupe farming with Allen Rose and also hauled seasonal fruits
     and vegetables from Colorado and Texas.
          Viola started her own wallpapering business in 1943 along with Eunice 
     (Ford) Oller. They worked for years together. Then Viola continued on her own,
     still doing several papering jobs each year.
          Jack was a member of the Isabel Odd Fellows (Lodge #416) and Grandview 
     Rebekah Lodge #222 in Isabel and Oddfellow Encampment in Pratt for many years.
     Viola belongs to the Isabel Grandview Rebekah Lodge #222 and is a charter
     member of the Pratt Ladies Encampment Auxiliary. For many years Jack enjoyed
     playing Santa in the annual Christmas parade. He was active in Law Enforcement
     as he was Isabel City Marshall, a member of the Kansas Law Enforcement Academy
     and also served under Andy Stevenson as Barber County Undersheriff. Both Jack
     and Viola were members of the Isabel Church of Christ.
          Jack and Viola raised three daughters: Charlotte, Charlene and Jackolyn,
     along with a foster daughter Sherry Lee Kent. They have 11 grandchildren and
     10 great-grandchildren to date.
          Jack died April 5, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas of a massive heart attack. Viola
     remarried October 30, 1968 and still lives in Isabel today.
