Edwin E. Boots was born in Pratt, Kansas, August 27, 1933. He is the
     son of Clyde S. and Orpha S. (Randle) Boots. He attended school at Isabel
     and Kansas State College. After serving two years with the U.S. Army, in
     Japan, he married Shirley J. Wehling, on February 11, 1956. Shirley is the
     daughter of F.C. (Fritz) and Hazel (Thomas) Wehling of rural Isabel.
          For three years Edwin and Shirley lived in the old Boots home, where
     the Mabie family now lives. Their daughter, Diana Kay was born on January
     30, 1976. She now resides in Pratt, Kansas, and teaches at Skyline School.
          Edwin operated a welding and repair shop and drove a school bus before
     going to work as a mechanic for the Isabel C0-op Hardware. Edwin farmed in
     western Kansas during this time.
          In 1959 Edwin and Shirley moved to the farm 27 miles northeast of Garden
     City, Kansas, where they now reside.
          In 1966, Bradley E. Boots joined their family. He is now grown and lives
     in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1968, Brian L. Boots joined the family. He is now
     a senior at Garden City High School, and is planning to attend Kansas State
     University.
          Edwin and Shirley have both been active in Kalvesta United Methodist
     Church, as teachers and youth group leaders. They have also been 4-H Project
     leaders, and part of the parent-teacher organization.
          Shirley is a charter member of the Kalvesta United Methodist women, and
     Garfield Gleaners EHU. She was appointed by the County Commissioners to serve
     on the first board of the Finney County Committee on Aging. She also takes
     part on the operation of the farm.
          Edwin has served on the Garden City School Baord, Finney County Extension 
     Council, Finney County A.S.C.S. Committee, and as Church Layleader. He has
     given many presentations on the benefits of no-till farming.
          Many friends and memories remain with Edwin and Shirley of thier lives
     in the Isabel community.
