Ivan F. Boyd
Ivan F. Boyd was born May 4, 1916 in the Hardscrabble neighborhood on
the farm now owned by Roy Nossaman. At 1 1/2 years of age in 1918 his family
moved to a farm 2 miles north, 3 miles west of Isabel. He had four sisters
and two brothers. He attended grade school at Sandcreek. His life occupation
has been farming and ranching. He spent three and one half years in the Air
Force during World War II. Twenty months of this time was spent in the
European theater, including Germany, France and England.
He married Edna House December 22, 1946. She was born September 17, 1916
on a farm 3 miles west and 2 miles south of Isabel. Her parents were Ben and
Emma House. She had three brothers and was youngest in the family. Her early
school years were at Crooked Creek, Isabel grade and high, also at South-
western and Hays. She spent 9 years teaching school at Pleasant Valley in
Barber County, Tennessee in Pratt, County, Isabel 5th and 6th grades and
concluded her teaching career in 4th grade in Pratt schools. She spent many
years doing substitute teaching after marriage.
Ivan and Edna had three children. Daughter Linda and husband Robert
Mease who live in Wichita have two daughters Jennifer and Melinda. Calvin
and wife Carla and son Christopher, live on the farm where Ivan and Edna
lived for 38 years and Edna had lived all her life before moving to Sawyer
August 1984. Then there is Darrel and wife Cindy and 3 daughters, Anna,
Sarah and Rachel who has lived in New Zealand since 1978.
Ivan and Edna's home church is Sawyer Christian. Many years have been
devoted to church, 4-H Extension, Elevator Board and Farm Bureau board and
community service.
