I Vera Louise Gibson was born February 12, 1922, daughter of Leslie B.
     Gibson April 22, 1892 and Tracie M> (Kumburg) Gibson August 3, 1892. I spent
my early years on a farm four miles west of Isabel. My two brothers Clyde and
Robert, also sister Fern graduated from Isabel.
Some of my summer enjoyment came from horseback riding, attending
baseball games and friends and family visits. Basketball and all school activieies
were enjoyed during the winter. After graduation from high school in 1940 I
studied for a teaching certificate at Hays College. My years of teaching were
     at Belmont, Kansas and Isabel.
On February 9, 1944 at the Presbyterian Church in Kingman, Kansas I
married Lee Paul Brown May 19, 1920. Lee's parents were Charles Frank Brown
and Persis Helen (Brown) Brown of Pretty prairie, Kansas. When Lee was
discharged from the Army we moved to Manhattan, Kansas for him to attend
KSAC. He graduated in 1950. We liked Manhattan so much we made it our home.
Our two children, Sherry Louise April 29, 1946 and Bruce Lee September 18,
1947 were born in Manhattan. Sherry married Ron G. Giersch April 2, 1966.
Ron is finaincial advisor for Purina Mills in Omaha, Nebraska. Bruce, is a
professional musician in San Francisco, California. We have two grandchildren
Brian Kelley and Julie Ann Giersch.
Our years in Manhattan have been busy, enjoyable ones! We are active in
the First Presbyterian Church. We worked with boy scouts and girl scouts. I
gave adult outdoor training for scout leaders for nineteen years and served
on the Kaw Valley Board of Directors as well as holding most adult offices.
Lee, has been a self employed carpenter. We own and operate apartments near
     the University.
Our greatest enjoymnet has been our family, good friends, fishing, camping,
boating, traveling, scouting, square dancing and working on genealogy. Our
player piano is enjoyed in our home, as well as at organizational functions.
I am active in La Sertoma, Eastern Star, Gingham Gals EHU and Riley County
     Genealogical Society.
