Esther Keimig Burkett, the daughter of George and Katie Keimig,
was born on a farm 6 miles southeast of Isabel. I attended grade school at
Eldred, a country school south of Isabel. I graduated from Isabel High School
and attended Emporia State University. After attending college I taught rural
schools near Nashville (Bross) and Medicine Lodge. I then spent a winter in
Salt Lake City, Utah working for United Airlines. I returned and taught schools
in Norwich and Adams. While teaching in Norwich I met and married Dwight Burkett.
Dwight is the son of Harry and Mabel Burkett. He grew up and attended
the Norwich Schools. We have lived in Norwich since our marriage. We have 3
children, Sheila, Evan and Karen. All 3 attended the Norwich Grade and High
schools and graduated from the University of Kansas. Sheila married Joseph
Luckey, have a daughter, Shauna and a son Dane. They live in Seattle, Washington.
Evan married Lynda Balman, have a daughter, Shara, and a son Cade. They live
near Norwich. Karen married Oren Simion, have a son, Earl, and a daughter,
Annie. They live at Lawrence, Kansas.
Dwight and I are both retired from Cessna Aircraft, Wichita. I have
many happy memories of harvesting, school picnics, "programs", baseball and
basketball garms, church dinners, and many school events.
