I graduated in May 1961 and went to Hutchinson to attend Sidneys Beauty
School. Then in December I moved to Pratt and started working. After a year
I attended Pratt Community College where I met Donald Cates of Claflin. We
were married in May 1965. He went into the Army in January 1966 to learn to
fly and we spent the next seven years moving on the average of every six months.
We were in Texas, Alabama, Gerogia, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Korea, and I
stayed in Kansas while Don was in Viet Nam. During these seven years I spent
my time being a wife and a mother to our three daughters. After our stay in
the Army we went to California where Don went to Flight Engineer School for
the 727 and obtained his Airline Transport Pilot rating in the DC3. After that
we returned to Wichita where Don went to work for Air Midwest. I stayed busy
raising our daughters. In December 1985 we had our first grandchild, Christopher.
He is all boy and can really keep you busy. Our oldest daughter, Debbie got
married last June and lives in Wichita. In July we decided that Don should
make a career change. He took a job with Florida Express in Orlando, Florida.
He is flying jets and enjoys it very much. We moved there in September and
left our two high school daughters home until we got settled. In October Kim came
down and then in December Charlotte came down to finish her last semester of
high school. We really enjoy the weather. While Kansas is having snow and cold
weather we are having warm weather. We are about 40 minutes from the ocean
and close to Disney. The only thing we don't like is being so far from our
     families.
