James A. Cavin
Jim, one of 9 children of Robert and Dora Cavin. Carrie, one of 6
children of John Watson Hiram Hoyt and Ollie Janetta Hoyt. Jim's family
came to Kansas with three other families (Twyman, George, Roland) from
Springfield, Missouri via covered wagon to settle in Sharon, Kansas.
Carrie's family originated in Pennsylvania to settle in Attica, Kansas.
Jim and Carrie ages 21 and 16 respectively were married August 9, 1903 at
Enon, Kansas (a church and school) four miles east of Sharon, Kansas. They
moved to a farm 4 miles south and 1 mile east of Isabel in 1907. In a few
years the family consisted of children: Alvin born 1905, Leaford 1907,
Opal 1909, Everett 1911, David A. 1918, and Newt 1923. The 4 older children
went to school at Eldred school south of Isabel, then all attended Isabel
city school and Alvin, Leaford and David graduating from Isabel High. Jim
was manager of Farmers Cooperative Elevator for many years until his death
at 61 in June 1943. Many folks said "He was the best elevator man they'd
had there." The family attended the Isabel Methodist Church. Carrie moved
back to Attica in 1946 where she lived until her death in January 1976.
They gave their children a rich heritage of Honesty, Integrity, and Christinity.
Three of the sons became Baptist ministers, proclaiming the Gospel of Christ.
