Junior Chain
Oscar Chain and son Leonard of Canton, Oklahoma bought what was known
as the Skinner Ranch located 5 miles south of Isabel in 1938, consisting of
2500 acres. Hayden Nickels moved his family from Oklahoma and lived there
for 10 years. In 1948 Gene Anson moved there and worked for 3 years. In 1951
Orville E. Chain, Jr. moved his family there from Oakwood, Oklahoma to live
on the Ranch.
Oscar turned his interest over to his grandson Ralph around the year
of 1951 and since that time they have bought surrounding land to increase
the acreage to around 7000 acres. Part of the Axline Ranch, Catlin Ranch,
Miller farm and the Williams farm have been added to the ranch.
Junior and Ella Mae raised their family on the ranch and the children
all went to school at Eldred which was located on the northeast corner of
the ranch. Later they went to Medicine Lodge and graduated from high school
there.
Zandra Boucher is teaching Special Education in the school system at
Seiling, Oklahoma. Dale is owner and operator of the Gyp Hill Meat Processing
Plant at Medicine Lodge. Gale is manager for Dillons meat department at
Garden City, Kansas. Arlene Webb is housewife and mother at Deerfield, Kansas.
After 36 years on the ranch Junior has semi-retired and they have moved
to their home in Medicine Lodge.
