The Cornelius farm was homesteaded by Julius Cornelius in 1884. After
     his death it was purchased by his brother France in 1886. Later France
     returned to Preoria, Illinois and married Mary Dornberger and they returned
     to make their home on the farm in Rochester Township, Kingman County, Kansas.
     They raised a family of four: Katie who married George Keimig, Louis marrie
     Ola Reed, Mabel married Pearl Lauterbach, Ray married Lavaughn Swingle October
     2, 1928. Through the years France and Mary purchased three more quarters of
     land. At their death Ray inherited the home quarter. Ray lived with his
     sister Katie's family five years after his parent's death and attended one
     year at Eldred country school and four years at Isabel High School graduating
     in 1925. Ray and Lavaughn lived on the home place all their married life. 
     Their children are Wayne, who married Else Scheffaur of Gersdorf, Austria.
     Their children are Roy Edward and a stepson Ludwig Heinz. Virginia who 
     married Fred Padfield and their children are Terry, Billy who died at age
     eleven, Jill and Linda. Roland married Dixie Plush. Their children are
     Rocky and Tamara. Ray and Lavaughn are retired now but still live on the
     farm. The land is farmed by a grandson Terry Padfield.
