Pete Cronin
Pete and Nora Cronin moved to Isabel with their daughter, Gladys,
in 1910. Pete started well and windmill repair business that kept him
occupied. On the side he bought a large rolltop desk and converted it
into a watch and clock repair desk. He also ordered jewelry from a
company in Kansas City. In later years he added two barber chairs to
his shop. Pete was also the town marshal for several years.
Nora ran a boarding house. She had seven regular bachelor boarders,
also a few transients. Her specialty was home made pies that were
delicious. She was an excellent cook using a four burner oil stove with
oven in the hot weather and a small cook stove in the winter. They always
had large gardens in the summer, canning extra vegatables for winter use.
Nora had an everblooming rose garden as well as iris, sweet peas,
nasturtiums and sweet violets that grew in a hot bed built by Pete.
Their son Bill was born February 22, 1911. He attended grammer school
there. Their son Jack was born July 4, 1919, the day Jack Dempsey whipped
Jess Willard. The boarders dubbed him Jack. Gladys finished grammer and
high school in 1921.
Pete, Nora and sons moved to Pierceville, Kansas in 1928 where Bill
attended high school and Jack finished grammar and high school. Pete passed
away in March 1966. Nora passed away in March 1973. Bill passed away in 1974.
Jack and his family live in Pierceville, Kansas. Gladys lives in Evergreen,
Colorado with her daughter and son-in law.
