Geraldine Wehling Dennis
Geraldine E. (Wehling) Dennis was born on A;ril 6, 1919 near Nashville,
Kansask and lived on a farm with my parents until 1938. My parents were
Henry and Lillian Wehling. They lived on the C.N. Marshall farm until 1936.
Then my father bought a farm a few miles away. There were three children
in our family. I was the oldest, then my sister Edna Mae and our brother
Delbert. We went to a country school called Cream Valley. For three years
I stayed with my grandmother and went to high school. My last year of
high school our country school was consolidated with Isabel so we went to
school in the school bus.
After graduating from high school in 1937 I went to beauty school in
Hutchinson, Kansas. Then after graduating I worked in a beauty shop in
Wichita, Kansas. After that I worked for a while in the Barber County
Treasurer's office. Then I worked in a beauty shop in Medicine Lodge, Kansas
before becoming a bookkeeper for a Dodge automobile dealer and then for
Champlin Oil Company both in Medicine Lodge.
On March 11, 1961, I was married to Glenn Pat Dennis, who was born in
Marshall, Oklahoma. We have a son, Henry Clark Dennis. Henry was married to
Gwendolyn Denise Ott on July 3, 1982 and they live in Manhattan, Kansas
where Gwen works in the bakery at Dillons and Henry goes to Kansas State
University. Henry is studying chemistry and will graduate in May of 1987.
Pat and I are retired and we are currently living in Medicine Lodge.
Pat spends a lot of time on his hobbies and I do a lot oc crocheting and
needlepoint. We also have a big yard and garden that we enjoy and take care
of in the summer.
