Daryl Dunham
Daryl Dunham was born at Nashville, Kansas, April 22, 1916, son of John
and Allie Twyman Dunham.
Edity Joyce Coss was born on the family farm near Isabel, Kansas, September
22, 1918, daughter of Thomas Albert Coss and Edith Elizabeth (Tull) Coss.
Daryl's family moved to the old Doran place. Daryl attended school at
Isabel his senior year and graduated in 1934. I went to school at Isabel and
met Daryl while we were both in high school. I graduated in 1936. We were married
in Sanger, California October 5, 1936.
Daryl worked in the lettuce sheds at Salins, California from 1936 to
1941, then went to work for Pacific Gas and Electric Company in Salinas. Daryl
worked in the gas department, but was transferred to the electric department.
Our three sons Larry, Philip, and Michael were born in Salinas, California.
Daryl was transferred to King City, California in 1944, as a journeyman lineman
for the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. I went to work for the King City Elementary
Schools in 1953 as a cafeteria worker and school bus driver.
Daryl was transferred to Monterey, California in 1957. I worked for the
Monterey School District as a bus driver. Daryl reesigned from the Pacific
Gas and Electric Co., and started working for Civil Service at Ft. Ord,
California in 1961. I retired from the Monterey school district in 1973 with
20 years of service. In November 1973 Daryl was transferred by Civil Service
to Hanaw, West Germany, for a three year tour of duty. We returned to the
States in October of 1976. Daryl retired from work at Ft. Bragg, North
Carolina, July 28, 1978. Our home was near Fayetteville, NOrth Carolina.
In June 1984 we bought 47 acres of undeveloped timber land with 3 small
streams on it. We built a dam and now have a beautiful pond surrounded by
trees. The pond is stocked with channel cat, bream, and large mouth bass.
It's a perfect place to spend our retirement years.
