Roy G. Ford
Roy G. Ford, youngest of five brothers and one sister was born
November 20, 1917 to John and Alice (Cirkel) Ford on a farm in Kingman,
County. His school days were spent at White Mound and Nashville.
In July 1941 he married, Marie, the oldest of three children of
John and Margaret (Adelhardt) Schaller. They homesteaded on his folks
land one mile west in Pratt County and helped his Dad farm.
In April 1942 he was drafted to the service serving in the Infantry,
stationed different places in the states and 16 months in the Aleutian
Islands. He received his discharge in October 1945 and returned to the
farm. A son, Lee Roy, was born June 1045; a daughter, Alice, in January
1948. Marie died following childbirth.
In August 1949 he married, Marcella, the third oldest of six sons
and three daughters of John and Emma (Simon) Adelhardt. To this union
was born Dennis, November 1950 and Carol (a stillborn) September 1952.
For one year we lived on an uncle's farm near St. Leo. When settling
the Ford estate we purchased the 160 acres where we had lived and later
purchased some land a mile north from Charles Meairs.
The children attended grade school at St. Leo, Lee Roy and Alice
eight years, Dennis six years the others at Isabel where they all attended
and graduated from Isabel High, then attending Pratt Juco.
Lee Roy lives at Wichita. He married Gail Hageman of Cunningham,
Kansas and has three chldren: Tonnia, Stacie and Jay. He's a driver for
Continental Trailways. Alice (Ford) Fischer lives in Pratt. She married
Jimmie Don Fischer and has three daughters: Kari, DeAnn and Lisa. She is
employed at the First National Bank. Dennis lives one mile north of us.
He married Janet Goetz of Zenda, Kansas and has one daughter, Lynn. He's
a farmer, does custom farm work and is our right hand.
Along with farming Roy did carpenter work, graded roads and worked
at the Gyp Mills.
We're members of the Farmers Coop Equity of Isabel and St. Leo
Catholic Church.
