Fred J. Friend
Fred Friend was born on a homestead in Oklahoma Territory August 11,
1892 son of Elmber and Barbara Friend. Mr. Friend (Elmer) died while Fred
was still a small boy. A few years later, his mother, brothers and sisters
moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
Ola Friend was born May 24, 1893 on a farm in Pratt County, Kansas
the daughter of Orsan and Carrie Larabee. When Ola was ten years old, the
Larabee family moved to Isabel where her father and brothers founded the
Larabee & Sons Hardware store.
While attending high school in Medicine Lodge, Fred and Ola met and
were married in 1917. They were working in Ogden, Kansas in 1918 when a
son was born (Harold). Shortly after the concludion of World War I, the
Friend famly moved to a farm about three miles southwest of Isabel. September
29, 1922 Eileen Friend was born.
In 1925 the Friends left the farm and moved to Isabel where Fred
worked at the Larabee Hardware Store until 1927, at which time they moved
to Wichita, Kansas.
Fred Friend died in September 1973. Ola Friend now resides at "Prairie
Homestead:, a retirement home in Wichita.
