Carl E. Hartman was born at Isabel on December 6, 1935. He was one of
     three children born to Carl C. and Muriel (Bell) Hartman. He grew up on the
     family farm four miles north of Isabel. He attended country school at Ashton
     until his 6th grade year when he started going to school at Isabel. He
     graduated from Isabel in 1953. He attended Pratt Community College and 
     Pittsburg State University. From 1958-1960 he served in the U.S. Army, 
     spending 18 months in Fairbanks, Alaska.
          On June 7, 1960 he married Wanda Mease at Fort Eielson Air Force Base,
     Fairbanks, Alaska. Wanda was born on August 21, 1938 at Nashville, Kansas. 
     She was the youngest of six children born to Ira J. and Bernice (Meek) Mease.
     She grew up on a farm eight miles southeast of Isabel. Wanda attended all
     12 years of school at Isabel graduating in 1956. She graduated from Fort
     Hays State University with a degree in Business Administration and Education.
     She began teaching at Altamont, Kansas and then at Isabel from 1968-1970. From
     1973-1976 Wanda worked at the Fish and Game Commisson as librarian. She is now
     in her 11th year as librarian at Haviland High School.
          Carl farmed with his father until 1965 when he became bookkeeper at the
     Isabel Farmers Co-op. In 1975 he bacame general manager at the Haviland
     Farmers Co-op until 1982 when the family moved back to Isabel. He was also 
     general manager at Iuka Co-op and office manager at Zenda Co-op and is now
     an insurance and securities agent for Ozark National Life Insurance Company
     and N.I.S. Financial Services. He is presently employed as manager for King
     Grain Co. at Trousdale.
          They have three daughters. Carla Sue (Clark) was born on November 24, 
     1961, at Pittsburg, Kansas; Jan Kay (mayes) was born November 1, 1963 at
     Pratt, Kansas; and Lisa Ann was born on July 26, 1975 at Greensburg, Kansas.
     They have four grandchildren: Tyler and Tara Clark and Cory and Caly Mayes.
     Lisa is in the 6th grade at Medicine Lodge Intermediate School.
