Pete Henrie
"Pete" Henrie started coaching and teaching in Isabel High School in
the fall of 1939 for 2 great years. An excellent school board of Coss,
Parkey, and Poland led a community dedicated to good schools, numerous
lifetime friends, fine home-disciplined students.
After coaching at Valley Center, 4 years in Army Air Force as a heavy
bomber pilot 8th Air Force over Europe - Distinguished Flying Cross, and
coach at Medicine Lodge, Pete returned to his 2nd home town (Isabel) for a
second time and served as Superintendent of Schools 4 more years. Another
excellent Board of Bell, Nossaman, Rolf, (Eckles short term). Continued
lifetime and young friends, good students.
Patrons agreed with their Board of Education (regardless of tough
times), to build a new auditorium and remodeled lunch room. Improved economy
and low interest rates proved it a wise decision. After Isabel, I served as
Superintendent of schools at Sterling, Kansas.
Maxine and Pete always considered Isabel as our "adopted" home town.
Our 2 children: Larry, an attorney, lives in Halstead; Jan, also an attorney,
lives in Wichita.
At 71, I'm still traveling 10 northwest states for the same aluminum
company for 34 years.
