Ray Hoyt
Ray Hoyt, son of LaMonte and Alice (Longmate) Hoyt was born in Knowles,
in Beaver County, Oklahoma, January 29, 1905. I lived in a sod house built
by my father. I had three brothers and three sisters. My Dad moved to Isabel,
Kansas in 1921 and started working at the Isabel Hardware. The family followed
six months later and I finished high school in Isabel, graduating in 1925.
In 1926 I lived in Houston, Missouri and farmed for a year using a
walking tool and horses. While in Missouri I taught school for six months
for $40.00 a month teaching 42 pupils. I then moved back to Isabel and worked
on the railroad.
In 1927 I went to work in Medicine Lodge in a dairy and helped to build
two houses. In 1928 I worked for the Blackwelder Brothers northwest of Isabel.
December 24, 1928 I married Marie (Huhman) of Cunningham. We moved to the
Will D. Austin farm for 10 years. We moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas in 1971
where I did carpenter work until I retired in 1984.
Marie has been employed at the Medicine Lodge Hospital for 30 years as
a Nurse's Aid.
We have two children, Bob of Hoisington, Kansas and Shirley of Mooringsport,
Louisiana, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
