William A. Inslee
William Andrew Inslee, also known as Willie, Billy, or Bill, was born
the seventh child to Theophilus D. and Emma (Rinebarer) Inslee on January
17, 1894. He grew to manhood on the family homestead 3 miles east and 1/4
mile north of Isabel. He attended Waverland country school and also Isabel
School. Later while living with his widowed Mother and younger brothers he
served on the Waverland school board and helped hire the teacher for the
1916-1917 school term who later was his wife.
Artine Deistler, daughter of Herman and Christine, was born June 17,
1895 in McPherson County, Kansas, the sixth of ten children. When she was
5 years old they moved to a farm near Natrona in Pratt County, Kansas. She
attended Bunker Hill country school and graduated at Pratt High School in
1914. She attended a normal training program and taught school 4 years. After
Willie and Artine were married at Newton, KS May 24, 1919 they resided on the
family farm after building a house in Isabel for his Mother.
Their five children Theda Fayne, Victor Dean, Theophilus Dwayne, Beverly
Jean and Shirley Willene were all born on the farm, attending 12 years of
school at Isabel School. They all attended Isabel Methodist Church, were
active in 4-H and school activities. Artine and Willie were members of the
Rebekah and Oddfellow Lodge both receiving 50-year jewels. Artine is still
a member of the Revekah Lodge and Stitch and Chatter quilting club. After
spending 34 years farming they moved to Isabel in 1953 to make their home.
They celebrated their 50th anniversary May 1969 in their home.
Willie enjoyed gardening and furniture refinishing and Artine her flowers.
Their joy was their 11 grandchildren. Willie passed away in 1979 and is
laid to rest at the Isabel Cemetery. Artine still has her home in Isabel and
has enjoyed her many years in Isabel.
