Homer Alfred Dye & Evelyn (Krause) Dye
Evelyn was born December 14, 1928, at Nashville, Kansas, one of six
daughters born to the Rev. Paul Gerhardt and Anna Christine (Henning)
Krause. She was baptized December 26, 1928, in St. John's Lutheran
Church, Nashville, Kansas, by her father, Pastor P.G. Krause. She was
confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church March 29, 1942.
Homer Alfred Dye was born April 12, 1914, at Rolla, Kansas, one of
six children born to John Marcus and Bessie (Bolt) Dye. He was baptized
and confirmed June 7, 1953, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Wichita.
Homer and Evelyn were married September 29, 1952, at the Lutheran
Church in Springdale, Arkansas, by Pastor William Ludwig. They lived in
Wichita, Kansas, where Evelyn worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone
company as toll and teletype operator and Homer worked for Coleman
Company as an inspector.
In April 1954 they moved to a farm near Turon, Kansas, where they are
still living. Because of heart surgery in 1980, Homer had to give up
farming. They are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Preston, Kansas,
where Homer has served as elder and Evelyn is a member of the Ladies Aid.
She has served as secretary and treasurer and enjoys making quilts for
World Relief with the ladies of the church.
Evelyn also worked for Hutchinson HOspital as PBX operator. She is a
member of the Extension Homemaker Unit and has served as president and
treasurer. She enjoys crafts and sewing. For the past four years she has
been making and selling collectible jointed teddy bears. She has made more
than 1,300 teddy bears and has made clothes for many of them.
Their children are James Emerson, born February 17, 1954; Gregory Lee,
August 13, 1955; and Rodney Jon, May 3, 1957. They have four grandsons
and two stepgrandsons. All three of their sons were born in Wichita, Kansas.
James is now living in Hutchinson, Kansas, where he is working for PMS Foods.
Gregory and Rodney both live in Wichita where Gregory works for Boeing
Military Aircraft Company and Rodney works for Business Systems Inc.
