Karl (Edd) Edward Engelhardt & Fredareka (Reka) Lanterman Engelhardt
Tracing footprints in the sands of time to roots in Germany, we find that
both my mother's and father's parents came from Germany to a new country,
leaving family and friends behind.
Edd was born March 26, 1876, in Glaesburg, Illinois. When he was eight
years old, the family moved to a farm near Bennington, Kansas, and later to
Great Bend, Kansas.
He met Fredareka Augusta Lanterman, born February 23, 1888, near Ellinwood,
Kansas. They married November 10, 1908. Their first home was Great Bend,
then rural Ellinwood, eight miles from town and church.
Because of their Christian faith, they saw the need to live nearer to
church and school. Hearing of cheaper land in the Kingman County area, they
bought and moved to a farm one mile south of Nashville in 1921, becoming
members of St. John's. Here we survived the depression years and dust bowl
days. Hearing our church bell ringing across the windswept plains helped
uplift our faith for the coming days and years.
Karl William was born November 23, 1910, in Great Bend. He was confirmed
on May 11, 1924, bhy the Rev. Duecker, St. John's. He married Irene Helmke
of Pratt December 20, 1933. Their first home was in rural Ellinwood and then
in Preston, Kansas. Their two children were Clarice O'Moore, Wichita, and
Karen Engelhardt, Preston. Karl passed away April 12, 1983, in Pratt; he is
at rest in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Preston.
Lavina Fredareka was born March 6, 1915, in Ellinwood. She was confirmed
April 1, 1928, by the Rev. Krause, St. John's. She married Walter Kahmeyer
February 14, 1934, in St. Paul's near Preston. They had one son, Wayne, of
Littleton, Colorado. Walter passed away June 27, 1972, and is at rest in
St. John's Cemetery.
Elmer Edward was born March 9, 1924, in Nashville, and was confirmed April
17, 1938 by the Rev. Hilst at St. Paul's. He married Lavada Quasebarth, Offerle,
Kansas. Their first home was in Pratt and they now live in Chase, Kansas
where they are members of Grace Lutheran, Lyons. Their three children are
Cheryle, Great Bend; Darryl, Jefferson City, Missouri; and Vickie, Wichita.
Our parents retired and moved to Pratt in 1936 and were members of Our
Saviour Lutheran Church. Dad passed away July 17, 1950 and Mother, February
2, 1957. They are at rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.
