Carl Hellman & Elizabeth (Flentje) Hellman

Henry W. and Wilhemenia Hellman moved to Herington, Kansas, from Illinois.
Carl was born there in 1895. Five boys and three girls made up the family:
Fred, Henry, Bill, Mary, Sophie, Otto, Carl and Melinda. They moved west of
Nashville in 1908 and the mother died that year. She was the first to be
buried in the Lutheran Cemetery. The father died in 1912.
The Flentje family moved to Nashville from Missouri in 1910. The family
consisted of Ernest, Marie, Anna, Emma, Elizabeth, Lena, Esther and Henry.
Farming didn't turn out as well as they were led to believe, so they sold
the farm and ran a restaurant. When it burned down, they ran a cream station.
Carl Hellman married Elizabeth Flentje in 1921. They lived around Nashville
and Medicine Lodge except for a few years in Wichita.
Gene Morton was born in 1925 and he attended school in Isabel, St. John's
Lutheran and Medicine Lodge High School where he graduated in 1943. He served
in the Army, being in the Battle of the Bulge and other battles in Europe
during World War II. Gene married Eunice Hudson in June 1947. That family
  history follows.
Betty was born in 1930. She graduated from Medicine Lodge High School and
then went to nurse's training in Wichita. She married Thomas Merritt and
they were parents of Tom and Susan. When Susan was two months old, she had
liver cancer. Thomas was killed in an airplane crash in 1955.
The folks moved to Wichita to stay with Betty and the children while Betty
  worked.
Susan was cured and lives in Kansas City and has three children.
Tom lives in Idaho, is married and has two step-children. Betty married
Marcus Holcom and lives in Buffalo, Oklahoma, where she is a member of Zion
Lutheran Church. They have Edward, twins John and Robert, and Laura. All of
  them have graduated from college.
The folks moved back to Nashville in 1968. They had good health and were
active in all church activities, choir and Bible Study. Elizabeth died in
  August 1984 and Carl, January 2, 1991.
