Gene M. Hellman & Eunice (Hudson) Hellman
Gene Morton Hellman was born at Isabel, Kansas, February 1, 1925. He was
confirmed with one of the largest classes at Nashville in 1938. He graduated
from Medicine Lodge High School in 1943. He served in the Army in Europe
from November 1943 to January 1946.
Eunice Hudson was born at Nashville in December 1926 and graduated from
Nashville High School in 1944. She was confirmed in 1948 at Argonia by
Pastor Miessler.
We were married June 15, 1947, at Nashville. Gene was manager of General
Mills Country Elevator at Gibbon, Oklahoma, twenty miles south of Anthony.
Jennine was born at Anthony May 8, 1950, and baptized at Argonia. That
December Gene was called back into the Army during the Korean War. We spent
until September 1951 at Lawton, Oklahoma. We came back to farm with my
parents, William Hudson. They moved to town and we lived on the farm.
Debra Ann was born in September 1952; Lora Kay, October 1954; Steven Paul,
August 1956. All were born at the Nashville Hospital and were baptized and
confirmed in Nashville.
Jennine was in the first class to graduate from Nashville-Zenda High
School after consolidation. She graduated from Wichita State University and
moved to Pittsburg, Kansas. She married Albert Marone Jr. in 1981. Their two
sons are Adam, 8, and Alan, 6. They live in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Debra Ann took X-ray training and worked in Wichita, went to night classes
and obtained a business degree. She moved to Dallas and is self-employed.
Lora Kay married Richard Hageman Jr. They farm with us and have two
children: Denise, 17, and Darrel, 14.
Lora works at Hilltop Manor, Cunningham.
Steven married Mary Viethaler and they farm with us, too. They have two
sons: Phillip, 12, and Chad, 10. Mary works for the postal service.
Gene has been chairman of the congregation for forty years, teaches Bible
class and sings in the choir. He coached baseball teams for several years,
was on the township board and has been actibe in LLL.
We moved to town in 1984. I cooked for five years at Hilltop Manor,
Cunnningham, eight years at Medicine Lodge Intermediate School and two
years at Cunningham School.
