Martin J. Knop & Agnes M. (Kuehn) Knop
Martin J. Knop was born August 6, 1909, the eldest of three children of
George Knop and Bertha (Schmidt) Knop, at Ellinwood, Kansas. He was baptized
by the Rev. J.F. Ruff, St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, Kansas, and
was confirmed by the Rev. Theo. Meyer, St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood,
Kansas.
Agnes Martha (Kuehn) Knop was born June 18, 1908, the youngest of three
daughters of William M. Kuehn and Elizabeth (Lintz) Kuehn, Nashville, Kansas.
She was baptized by the Rev. Frederick Busse and confirmed by the Rev. F.J.
Duecker, St. John's Lutheran Church, Nashville, Kansas.
Martin and Agnes were married by the Rev. Fred Kraemer in the home of
Martin's parents, George and Bertha Knop, at Ellinwood, Kansas, December
16, 1937.
To this union three children were born: Nancy Jane Knop, born March 1940,
died in infancy; Marlin Dennis Knop was born September 18, 1941; and
Douglas Bruce Knop was born July 16, 1945.
Martin and Agnes made their first home, which was built before they were
married, northwest of Isabel, Kansas. It has been their home for the past
fifty-six years.
Martin has been a farmer-stockman all his life, moving from Ellinwood,
Kansas, in 1929. He has served as elder, secretary and treasurer of St.
John's Church, Nashville, Kansas, and has been a member of Lutheran Layman's
League and Men's Club.
Agnes has been a homemaker and past member of the Dorcas Society of St.
John's Lutheran Church, Nashville, Kansas.
We are now retired and still living in the only home we have ever had and
enjoying our seven grandchildren - two grandsons and five granddaughters.
