Herold Victor Krause
Herold Krause was born July 30, 1911, at Wallace, Texas.
Herold attended the Christian Day School at Bellefonte, Kansas, where
only German was spoken. In 1926, he moved to Nashville, Kansas, which
was an entirely English-speaking community. Because of the language
barrier, he did not go on to high school.
He was employed as a driver for the Greyhound Bus Lines until he was
drafted into the service of his country in June 1941. In October, the
service released all men who were more than twenty-six years old. After
the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, those men were recalled to serve.
Herold was recalled January 25, 1942, to serve in the ground crew of
the Air Force. He was stationed at the Air Force Base in India until he
was honorably discharged November 17, 1945.
Herold returned to Nashville and was employed as an automobile mechanic.
He married Lousie Marie Winter in 1946 and they moved to Wichita, Kansas,
in 1949 where he was employed by Cudahy Packing Company until his retirement.
They had one son, Roger Lynn, born February 9, 1949, at Nashville, Kansas.
They were divorced when Roger was a small boy.
Herold died of a massive heart attack June 1, 1985, at Wichita, Kansas.
