Lawrence William Lampe & Nelma Clara (Poppe) Lampe


     Nelma Poppe was born January 19, 1914, at Lincolnville, Kansas, a daughter
   of Earnest and Rose Poppe. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in the
   Lutheran Church at Lincolnville, Kansas. Her parents moved to Nashville when
   she was five years old. Nelma went to grade school in the country school,
   Lutheran Day School and the eighth grade at the public school, graduating
   from high school in Nashville in 1933. She was confirmed in the Lutheran
   faith in 1928 by Pastor Krause.
     She taught sunday School when they first started Sunday School, sang in
   the choir and belonged to Walther League and has been an active member of
   the Ladies Aid, having served ten years as president.
     Lawrence Lampe was born January 1, 1912, at his home southwest of Nashville,
   the son of Herman and Elizabeth Lampe and one of eight children. He was
   baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Nashville. He attended his
   grade school in the country school southwest of Nashville and graduated from
   high school in Nashville in 1932.
     They were school-day sweethearts and Lawrence and Nelma were married 
   December 17, 1933, at Radium, Kansas.
     They had five children. Twyla was born October 27, 1934. Elaine was born
   September 5, 1936. Don was born January 25, 1939. Dennis was born June 1,
   1942, and Marlene was born March 25, 1947.
     Lawrence was a farmer most of his live. They lived southwest of Nashville
   until 1939 when they moved on the Poppe place northwest of Nashville until
   they sold the place in 1965. Lawrence was employed in the Coop for two years.
     He died July 7, 1968. He is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery, Nashville.
   The Rev. Lorhke performed the services.
     Lawrence and Nelma moved into Nashville in August 1966 and Nelma still 
   lives there. Their children are all married. Twyla Rose married William
   Harbison and they have two sons and a daughter; they live in Wichita.
     Elaine married Gary Davidson and they have two sons and a daughter. They
   live in Cimarron.
     Don married Sandra Stenzel and they have two daughters and a son.
     Dennis married Charlene Thome and they have a daughter and a son.
     Marlene married Bud Vierthaler and they have two daughters and a son.
     Nelma has fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She
   enjoys visiting, sewing, quilting and reading. They have a Senior Center
   in Zenda where many enjoy their food and friendship.
