Clarence William Laverentz & Edna Mae (Kraemer) Laverentz
Clarence was born at Hanover, Kansas, the youngest of five children of
Henry and Louise Laverentz. The family moved to Kingman County when he
was five. He went to Pleasant Hill School and later to the Lutheran school
where he was confirmed by the Rev. P.G. Krause.
Edna Mae, youngest daughter of Ed and Kanna Kraemer, attended country
school until seventh and eighth grade when she attended the Lutheran School.
She was also confirmed by the Rev. Krause. Both Edna Mae and Clarence
belonged to the Walther League.
In 1942, Clarence was called to serve in the Army in World War II and
served until October 1945. They were married December 31, 1945, after the
New Year's Eve service at the church. They moved to Anna's farm and farmed
for twenty-four years.
Mae was a charter member of the Dorcas Society and the first work project
was to hire a caretaker for the church cemetery. The Dorcas Society enjoyed
many social events.
Their children are Richard Ray, March 9, 1952; Ann Louise, July 26, 1954;
Kay Elaine, May 4, 1956; and Edward Henry, February 12, 1959. They were
baptized and attended Sunday School in Nashville and grade school in Zenda.
Richard and Ann were confirmed at St. JOhn's. In 1969, the family moved to
Cheney and joined St. Paul's. Kay and Ed attended the Lutheran school and
were confirmed by the Rev. Weihmeyer.
Clarence worked at Cessna and Mae worked at the Golden Age Home for three
years, then went to work for Cessna also.
Ann married Tommy Toms in 1975. They lived in Hutchinson and have one
daughter, Kylea Michele, born June 11, 1979. Tom and Ann are no longer
married and Ann and Kylea live in Cheney. Ann works for Modagrafics in
Goddard.
Ed married Barbara Kampling and they have two daughters, Shelby Lynn,
born February 15, 1987, and Whitney Lee, born June 19, 1989. Ed works for
Sedgwick County Fire Department and has a plumbing business. Barb is a
beautician and has a shop in her home. They also live in Cheney.
Richard is not married and does contract aircraft work which requires
him to move often.
Kay is not married and works for Lear Jet. She also does custom sewing
in her home in Cheney.
In November 1990, Clarence died. Anna came to live with Mae after she
broke her hip. Mae enjoys having her family and grandchildren here.
