Edward Henry Lawrence & Agnes Elizabeth (Shinliver) Lawrence
Edward Henry Lawrence, son of J. Julius and Eva M. Lawrenz (original
German spelling and in 1917, was changed to Lawrence), attended church
at St. JOhn's after moving from Hope, Kansas, to Kingman County with his
parents in 1913. He was confirmed and joined the Lutheran Church. Edward
worked at the trade of barbering along with farming until the farm demanded
his full attention.
On July 31, 1923, Agnes Shinliver and Eddie were married. Agnes was born
at Nashville, Kansas, February 17, 1905, the daughter of Mary E. and Mack
D. Shinliver. She, too, joined her husband in attending church and later
became a member. Women didn't often work outside the home, but Agnes could
make a beautiful scratch angel food cake, which she often did for others.
In the summer of 1936, Agnes and Eddie moved to a farm three miles south
of Isabel, Kansas, to continue in farming and raising their family. Eunice
was born November 1925 and married Paul Bowersox; they live in Waverly,
Kansas, and have two children, Kara and Brad. Juanita was born October 1928;
she married Billy Keller and they live in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. They are
the parents of Larry, Terry, Kimberly, Richard and Joel. Gwendolyn was born
November 1934; she married Ron LIebt and they live in Claremore, Oklahoma.
They have two children, Susan and Todd. In March 1941, a son, Edward, joined
his sisters on the farm. He married Fonda Ricke and they live in Norton,
Kansas. They have two children, Paul and Shawna.
Edward enjoyed the farm but evening often found him playing his harmonica
and reading. He continued to farm until his death in 1949.
Agnes remained on the farm until 1954, at which time she moved to Medicine
Lodge with her young son Edward. There she worked at the Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital. She transferred her church member ship to Trinity Lutheran
and continued to be active in the church until her death in 1969.
