Oscar Lawrence Mueller & Janet Emily Mueller
Our parents, Janet and Oscar, were married August 1930 in Jefferson City,
Missouri. They spent the first six years of their marriage in Scott City,
Kansas, where Dad was the pastor of the Lutheran Church. In 1937, Dad
accepted a call to St. John's Lutheran Church in Nashville, Kansas. By
that time, the Mueller family had grown and included Francis, Kathryn and
June (ages six, five and two years respectively). This memorable phase in
the lives of the Muellers started when they moved into the large two-story
parsonage in Nashville.
In a way, these were the "wonder years" for the Mueller children. We had
good times playing, working and going to school with the young folks of
Nashville. I remember family names such as Knuth, Kahmeyer, Lawrence,
Westerman, Pagenkopf. We attended the Christian Day School, the public
elementary school (when no Day School teacher was available) and Nashville
High School. I remember two Day School teachers: Mr. Eisemann, a real
disciplinarian, and Aaron Solesky. I remember Skunk Creek running inter-
mittently through the middle of town. For a while, we had free open-air
movies in a vacant lot in the middle of town on warm summer Saturday nights.
In 1948, Dad accepted a call to Ellsworth, Kansas. After about six years,
Mom and Dad moved on to serve the Lutheran Church in Gurley, Nebraska. Mom
and Dad were alone by the time Dad was called to Gillette, Wyoming.
Our parents retired in 1970 and moved to their home in Myrtle Point, Oregon.
They enjoyed travel, a variety of handcrafts and tending to their fruit trees
and flowers. Dad died in November 1991 at age 86. Mom is living in an
apartment in the Myrtle Point Care Center.
June is living in Vienna, Virginia, with her husband, Larry Lassman. They
have three grown children and two granddaughters. Kathryn married Lew Seaman.
They live in Kirkland, Washington. Their family includes four children and
seven grandchildren. Francis married Joan Gillette. They settled in Berkeley,
California. They have three children and one granddaughter.
