LaRue W. Owen & Irene L. (Pagenkopf) Owen
LaRue W. Owen and Irene L. Pagenkopf were married during World War II,
March 9, 1942, at Nashville, Kansas, by Pastor O.L. Mueller. LaRue's
parents were John and Emma (Kuehn) Owen and Irene's parents were Charles
and Ella (Kahmeyer) Pagenkopf.
LaRue was in the Chemical Warfare Service, Baltimore, as a laboratory
technician at the base hospital. He was discharged from the service in
1945 and graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1950.
He trained in Anesthesia at massachusets General Hospital, Boston, and
has practiced Anethesia in Wichita for 36 years.
They have two children, Rodney and Kay. Rodney is married to Martha
Menke and they have one son, Jonathan. Rod and Martha live in Andover,
Maryland. Jon is a junior at Grinnell College, Iowa, majoring in Russian
Studies.
Kay is married to Craig Kennedy and they have two daughters, Annie and
Sophie. They live in Wichita. Annie is attending the University of Kansas,
pre-med student, and Sophie is a freshman at Wichita High School East.
LaRue's maternal grandparents, Christina and Jacob Kuehn, were instru-
mental in starting St. John's Lutheran Church as the first meetings were
held in their home in 1890. The families have always been members of the
Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and are still today.
