Robert August Pagenkopf & Martha (Bortstede) Pagenkopf


     Robert (Bob) Pagenkopf was born November 2, 1892, to Louis and Emilie
   Pagenkopf at Shadybrook, Kansas. He was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical
   Lutheran Church at Shadybook.
     Bob moved to Nashville with his parents, sisters, and brothers when he 
   was fifteen years old. His parents moved back to Lincolnville, Kansas, after
   seven years, but Bob and Henry remained on a farm east of Nashville.
     Bob, his father and two brothers, Ed and Henry, helped dig the basement
   for the church where it is presently located.
     Bob married Martha Bortstede December 16, 1916, at St. Charles, Missouri.
   Martha was born March 22, 1890, at Foristell, Missouri, to John and Elise
   Borgstede. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Foristell.
   She also attended German school there.
     Martha came to Nashville the summer of to visit a sister, Lydia Morisse.
   While she was there, she met Bob and they were married in December 1915. 
   They lived on the farm east of Nashville until 1923 when they moved to town.
     They had four children: Francis, born 1919; Gladys, 1922; Dean, 1925; and
   Alice, 1927. All of the children were baptized and confirmed at St. John's
   Lutheran Church. They have five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
     Bob was a cattle buyer until he, Martha, Gladys and Alice moved to Wichita
   in 1944; then he worked for a Cattle commission firm until he retired. They
   all joined Immanuel Lutheran Church and are still active members.
     Martha passed away October 29, 1990, at the age of 100. Bob lived with
   Gladys and Alice and he was 100 years old November 2, 1992. He died November
   9, 1992.
     Gladys has been the homemaker and cared for Bob and Martha and Alice has
   worked for Associated Milk Producers forty-three years; she retired December
   31, 1992.
