Karl (Charles) Albert Pagenkopf & Ella Pauline (Kahmeyer) Pagenkopf
Ella Pauline (Kahmeyer) Pagenkopf was born to Ernest and Mary (Nunnenkamp)
March 1, 1898, at Hampton, Nebraska. She had five brothers, Ernest Jr., Ray,
Walter, Gilbert and Leonard, and two sisters, Lydia and Marie (Mindt). When
she was eight years old, she moved with her parents to Marion County, Kansas,
where she attended the Lutheran School at Emldale, Kansas, and was confirmed
there. In 1913, the Kahmeyer family moved to a farm southwest of Nashville.
Charley A. Pagenkopf was born September 4, 1892, to Albert Fredrick and
Sophie Emilie (Kohls) Pagenkopf at Hope, Kansas. He had three brothers, Henry,
Louis, and Fred, and one sister, Emma (Cottrell). The Pagenkopf family moved
to a farm five and one-half miles southeast of Nashville in 1908.
Charley and Ella were married November 11, 1917, in the Lutheran Church in
Nashville by the Rev. Meyer. After their marriage Charley's parents left the
farm and Charley and Ella lived on the farm until 1948.
They were parents of five daughters: Hilda Marie (Hensiek), born September
18, 1918;p Irene Louise (Owen), born September 28, 1920; Eleanor Ella (Mattal)
born August 8, 1923; Goldie Marie (Dicke), born October 8, 1925; and Charlotte
May (Zimbleman), born May 5, 1933. They had eleven grandchildren and eighteen
great-grandchildren.
Charley owned a threshing machine and did custom threshing in addition to
his regular farming. In his later years, he also did carpenter work and cut
and sold posts from trees raised on his farm.
Ella was a member of St. John's Church Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women's
Missionary League.
In 1948, they built a house in Nashville where they resided until their
deaths. In 1968, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Charley died September 22, 1970, and Ella died October 17, 1975. They are
buried in the church cemetery at Nasvhille.
