Amzy Eugene Rowland & Berniece Marie (Morisse) Rowland
Berniece Morisse was born June 26, 1925, at Nashville and was baptized
and confirmed at St. John's. She attended church there until 1947 when
her father, Otto, died and she and her mother, Lydia, moved to Wichita.
Amzy was from Kiowa, Kansas. The two met in January 1959, through a
cousin of Berniece's. Amzy was a cousin to the DeWeese family of Nashville
and his parents, John Roy Rowland and Jennie Bixler, both lived in the
Nashville area before they started their family. Berniece's parents knew
Amzy's parents as young people. Amzy served in the Army in the Korean
conflict.
Berniece and Amzy were married October 17, 1959, in Wichita. They lived
in Wichita until August 1969 when Amzy, a lumberman, was transferred to
Waco, Texas. They also lived in Norman, Oklahoma, and moved to Tulsa,
Oklahoma, in January, 1975.
They had two sons, Michael was born August 24, 1960, and Brent was born
August 13, 1963.
Amzy joined the Lutheran Church in Wichita in 1963 and was an active
member wherever he lived; he also served as an elder. He passed away on
October 16, 1984, the day before their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary,
and is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Nashville.
Berniece and her two sons live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Michael is a computer
operator at Hillcrest Medical Center. Brent is an attorney with Legal
Services of Eastern Oklahoma. Berniece is a data entry specialist at Prevue
Network where she has been employed for ten years.
