Rev. Herman Seyfert & Klara (Bohlen) Seyfert
The Rev. Herman Seyfert was born at Preston, Kansas, April 4, 1910, the
son of Charles and Rosa Seyfert. Klara Bohlen was born January 14, 1912,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bohlen. They were married at Downs, Kansas,
on June 12, 1938.
He attended St. John's College at Winfield, Kansas, in preparation for
the holy ministry and completed his theological training at Concordia
Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1934. Few calls were issued that year,
so he taught school at Bellefont, Kansas. His active ministry began in
1936 with a call to a dual parish at Kensington and Athol, Kansas. He was
there until 1939.
His next charge ws to Colby-McAllester, Kansas. Nine years later he
received the call to Nashville, Kansas. The Lord provided a parochial
school there for a growing family, so he accepted. The family enjoyed many
blessings from the Lord at this parish. He also began a mission church at
Medicine Lodge during this period. His final parish was at St. Peter's,
Humboldt, Kansas, 1957-1974. He was involved with building programs of a
new church and parsonage. He was electied Circuit Counselor in two areas.
He also served a mission congregation at Holiday Island, Arkansas, for
several years during his retirement in Bella Vista. The Rev. Seyfert retired
in June 1974. They became active members of Faith Lutheran Church at Benton-
ville, Arkansas, in 1981. He died September 16, 1990.
Mrs. Seyfert resides at Concorida of Bella Vista. They have a family
reunion every other year and she claims a perfect record so far.
They had seven children. Delores Davis lives in Chardon, Ohio, and has
one daughter. Elvira Durkin lives in Herington, Kansas; she has three sons
and one daughter. Dean, of St. Louis, Missouri, has three sons and one
daughter. Don lives in Chicago, Illinois. Earl, who lives in Albuquerque,
New Mexico, has one son and two daughters. Evelyn Koeltzow, of Montezuma,
Georgia, has three sons and one daughter. Lynn has two daughters and they
live in Euless, Texas.
Dean taught in parochial school for several years. Dolores served as a
Deaconess for ten years. She and Lynn are organists and have served for
many years.
