Hugo Wilhelm Thom & Stella Pearl (Moomau) Thom
Stella Thom was born April 9, 1902, near Medicine Lodge, Barber County,
Kansas, to Fred Victor Moomau and Susan Elizabeth (Heacock) Moomau. She
was the third of eight children. She was confirmed May 15, 1930, by Pastor
P.G. Krause at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nashville, Kansas.
Hugo Wilhelm Thom was born January 25, 1894, near Revenna, Buffalo County,
Nebraska, to Karl Theodore Thom and Mary Lina (Petermann) the second of
five children. He was baptized February 25, 1894, by Pasotr Emil Koch at St.
John's Lutheran Church in Revenna, Buffalo County, Nebraska. His confirmation
was spoken in the German language. He moved from Revenna, Nebraska, to Barber
County, Kansas, at age 14 when his parents bought land four miles south of
Isabel, Barber County, Kansas. He grew to manhood there and farmed.
Hugo Wilhelm Thom and Stella Pearl Moomau were married July 25, 1921, at
Medicine Lodge Courthouse, January 29, 1925.
Hugo and Stella moved to Peck, Kansas, and farmed for three years; then
they moved back to the home place near Isabel, Kansas, to farm in 1924. They
bought a farm in 1936. It is located three miles south, one mile east and
one-half mile north of Isabel. They moved there in 1937 and farmed and raised
Hereford cattle. In 1948, they built a new country home. The carpenters were
Henry Dicke and Charles Pagenkopf from Nashville, Kansas.
On July 25, 1961, they celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in
their farm home with friends and relatives. Stella and Hugo bought a home
and moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas, in 1968. On July 25, 1971, they
celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an open house at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
Hugo Wilhelm Thom died February 23, 1976, and was laid to rest in the
Lutheran Cemetery, Nashville, Kansas.
Stella Thom helped organize the Leisure Time Center in Medicine Lodge,
Kansas, and held office. Stella enjoyed the center, making it her daily
routine for dinner and playing cards. The friendship gave her much pleasure.
Stella celebrated her ninetieth birthday April 9, 1992, with an open
house at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge, Kansas. It was a very
"Special Day." Stella enjoyed everyone who came to see her and having all
of her family present. She had five grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
Stella Pearl Thom died July 20, 1992, and was laid to rest in the Lutheran
Cemetery, Nashville, Kansas.
