Charles Wayne Thom & Velma Mae (Mease) Thom

Charles Wayne Thom was one of the last babies baptized in the Trinity
Lutheran Church of Isabel, Kansas, on February 8, 1925, by Pastor Duecker.
Wayne was born on Kansas Day, January 29, 1925, to Hugo Wilhelm Thom and
Stella Pearl (Moomau) Thom. He has one sister, Eleanor Banks.
Wayne was confirmed on April 24, 1938. He graduated from high school and
served in the Army during World War II; he received the purple heart. After
the war, he came home and continued on his farm.
On November 14, 1948, in Pratt, Kansas, he married a neighbor girl, Velma
Mae Mease. Her parents were Byron Clark Mease and Bertha Belle (Price) Mease
of Isabel. She had two brothers: Edward J. (who was stillborn) and Harold
   Lloyd.
Wayne and Velma started their married life on a farm ten miles west of
   Medicine Lodge along the river.
In 1953, they moved to the Ed Mease (Velma's grandfather) home place along
Sand Creek, southeast of Isabel. Velma was baptized and confirmed in January
of 1957 at St. John's by the Rev. Seyfert.
On February 7, 2957, a son, Randy Scott, was stillborn. He is at rest in
the St. John's Cemetery with his father's parents and his great-grandfather,
   Karl Thom.
In May of 1961, God chose them to be the parents of Matt Charles Thom, born
December 19, 1960. He was baptized on Mother's Day, May 14, 1961, by Pastor
Amen. On February 23, 1964, they were blessed with Monte Bill Thom. He was
baptized by the Rev. Miessler on May 6, 1964.
Wayne's folks moved to Medicine Lodge in December of 1969. Wayne and Velma
then moved to their farmstead. On April 19, 1970, they were again blessed
with the birth of another son, Clark Wayne Thom. Clark was baptized on May 10,
1970, by the Rev. Lohrke. All three of the boys grew up going to church at
St. John's and were confirmed there.
Matt graduated from Oklahoma State University and now lives in Austin, Texas.
He works in the accounting department at the state hospital.
Monte graduated from Kansas State University and came home to farm. He moved
to the ranch north of 99 Springs Resort. He changed his church membership to
Trinity Lutheran at Medicine Lodge at the time he moved. In April 1990,
Shannon Decker form Iola, Kansas, and a graduate of Pittsburg State University,
was baptized and confirmed by Pastor Goebel at Trinity Lutheran Church. On
October 20, 1990, Shannon and Monte were married by Pastors Goebel and McMullin.
They are both active in Trinity Lutheran Church.
In May 1992, Clark graduated from Kansas State University. He is now farming
   with his brother and father.
Wayne has served as elder and on the stewardship board of St. John's church.
Velma has been active with Dorcas since she joined the church.
