Hollis Peter Thomas & Ella (Lampe) Thomas
Ella Thomas was born the seventh child of four sons and four daughters to
Herman and Elizabeth Lampe of Nashville, Kansas, October 1, 1917. She was
baptized by Pastor Meyer and confirmed by the Rev. P.G. Krause. Ella became
a nurse and served in the Sharon and Norwich hospitals.
Hollis Thomas of Seward, Nebraska, was born January 31, 1918. After
graduating from Concordia Teachers college of Seward, Nebraska, Hollis was
assigned to St. John's Lutheran Church as teacher, organist, choir director
and youth leader in the fall of 1940 for an eight-month term. The second
year became a nine-month term and the third year he received a permanent call.
On a very special Christmas Eve in 1942, Hollis and Ella were married with
Pastor Mueller officiating and Mrs. Mueller at the organ. Brother Sergeant
Elmer Lampe was the best man and his wife Becky was maid of honor. It was a
6 p.m. wedding with a 7 p.m. reception followed by Christmas Eve Service at
8 p.m.
The fall of 1943 found us spending four years of our ministry at Zion in
Newton and then in 1947 at Atonement in Dearborn, Michigan, for 36 years
until retirement in June 1983.
Karen Marie, the first child, was born June 22, 1944, in Newton. She is a
graduate of Concordia Teachers College. Karen married Richard Pohlman of
Hamburg, New York, and is the mother of three sons: Scott, Todd and Jason.
Our second daughter, Marcia Jean, was born July 15, 1952. She is a Valpo
graduate and toured Europe six months before beginning her career working
with the handicapped. She works for the State of Florida in Tallahassee. She
planned to marry Curtis Simmons December 24, 1992.
Hollis Warren, our son, was born June 21, 1954. He is a Michigan Tech
graduate and hs formed his own company in the geological field. He lives
in the Fife Lake area around 240 miels northwest of Dearborn on his 80 acre
property with a 12 acre lake. It produces good bass and pike fishing.
Praise be to God for the many fun-filled and blessed years which had their
beginning here at St. John's.
