Harry Thorne & Ada Marie (Suhler) Thorne
Ada Marie Suhler was born November 25, 1918, the youngest of seven children
of Nic and Louisa (Huehn) Suhler. The family lived on a farm two and one-
half miles south of Nashville. St. John's Lutheran Church had Mission Festival
each early summer in a large grove at the Suhler home until May 7, 1927,
when a tornado destroyed the home and all farm buildings.
The family rebuilt and lived there until 1934, when Nic and Louisa retired
and moved to Nashville. Louis, their son, moved to the farm.
Ada Marie has fond memories of St. John's including confirmation and the
huge (as she recalls) Christmas tree with beautiful decorations and lighted
flame candles each year.
Ada Marie left Nashville after she graduated from high school in 1937 and
entered nurses training at Kingman Memorial Hospital and graduated in June
1940.
Harry Thorne of Norwich, Kansas, and Ada Marie Suhler were married in
September 1941. After Harry was discharged from the Air Force after World
War II, they farmed at Norwich for a few years.
Harry then attended Oklahoma A&M and graduated with a degree of Engineer
in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. During his last year at A&M, Ada
was emplyed as a registered nurse at Larned State Hospital. Harry joined
her at Larned and opened Harry's Refrigeration Service. They are now both
retired and still reside in Larned.
