Fern L. Thurman & Arlene (Lawrenz) Thurman


     Arlene Lawrenz, daughter of Henry A. and Ella (Morisse) Lawrenz, was born
   January 13, 1927, at rural Sawyer, Kansas. She was baptized March 13, 1927,
   by Pastor P.G. Krause and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nashville,
   Kansas, April 28, 1940, by Pastor O.L. Mueller.
     On December 5, 1948, she was married to Fern L. Thurman at Christ Lutheran
   Church, Perry, Oklahoma, by Pastor A.J. Brase.
     Their children are Karen Goatley, Arkansas City; Kathie Thurman, Pratt;
   and Bob Thurman, Wichita. Their grandchildren are Tamara and Megan Goatley,
   Arkansas City; and Derek, Dustin and Brittany Thurman, Wichita.
     Karen married Gary Goatley August 15, 1969. Bob married Karen Smith June
   18, 1977.
     Arlene worked as a secretary for many years, retiring in 1987. Fern was a
   railroad agent for the Frisco Railroad for forty-one years and retired in
   1982.
     After living in Oklahoma for fourteen years, the family moved to Winfield,
   Kansas, and, after three years, moved to Arkansas City, where they now reside.
     Fern and Arlene are members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City
   as are Karen and family. Kathie is a member of Our Savior Lutheran in Pratt
   and Bob and family are members of Ascension Lutheran jin Wichita. Fern has
   held many church offices and Arlene is active in LWML.
