John Frederick Westerman & Katie (Peters) Westerman
John Frederick Westerman was born December 25, 1893, in Marshall County,
Kansas, the son of Johanne Frederick and Friedrike (Oldenburg) Westerman.
He was baptized in Marshall County and confirmed April 12, 1908, at
Washington County, Kansas.
Katie (Peters) Westerman was born October 6, 1898, in Odell, Nebraska,
the daughter of William and Anna (Harms) Peters. She was baptized October
30, 1898, at Hermansburg, Kansas, and confirmed May 31, 1912, in Kay County,
Oklahoma.
John and Katie were married December 10, 1916, at St. John's Lutheran
Church, Nashville, Kansas. Their marriage was the first to be performed
in the new church building in 1916.
Four children were born to them, two daughters and two sons. Elda (West-
erman) Hesterburg was born April 16, 1919; she married Norman Hesterburg.
Wilbert ws born November 28, 1920; he married Thelma Laverentz. Alvin was
born Nobember 13, 1924; he married Vera Lampe.
John and Katie had six grandchildren.
they lived a number of years on a farm south of Isabel before moving to
their homestead southwest of Zenda, Kansas, in 1930, where they farmed and
raised their family.
John and Katie were active members of St. John's Church. John served a
number of years as an elder and Katie was a member of the Ladies Aid.
John was called to his heavenly home January 5, 1968, at the Hutchinson
Hospital. Katie was called to her heavenly home July 4, 1959, at the
Nashville Hospital. They are both laid to rest at the St. John's Lutheran
Cemetery, Nashville.
