Melvin Westerman was born November 27, 1958, at Nashville Hospital, the
   only child of Alvin and Vera Westerman. He was baptized December 14, 1958, 
   and confirmed March 26, 1972, in St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev.
   Jeff Miller.
     Melvin attended Zenda Grade School, Nashville-Zenda High School, Kaw Area
   Vo-Tech School in Topeka and Emporia State University.
     He married Melisa Ann Cole August 7, 1982, in Ulysses, Kansas. They
   graduated from Emporia State in May 1984 and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for
   one year. Melvin and Melisa taught and coarched in Oklahoma for the next
   eight years.
     Their children are Tyler Cole Westerman, born March 31, 1987, in Tulsa,
   Oklahoma, and Taryn Brooke Westerman, born May 10, 1990, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
     They moved back to Kansas in June 1992 to teach in the Liberal Public
   Schools.
     The family enjoys fishing, camping and traveling to visit grandparents.
   They also enjoy spending time at Lake Texoma  each summer for Melisa's
   summer job.
