Wilbert William Westerman & Thelma (Laverentz) Westerman


     Wilbert Westerman was born November 28, 1920, at Isabel, Kansas, the son
   of John and Katie (Peters) Westerman. He was baptized December 19, 1920, 
   and confirmed April 28, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church. He lived ten
   years of his childhood on a farm south of Isabel before moving with his
   family to the homestead southwest of Zenda, Kansas, in 1930. He attended
   the St. John's Parochial School.
     On July 15, 1942, Wilbert enlisted in the Army at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
   He married Thelma (Laverentz) Westerman March 6, 1943, at St. John's.
     On August 9, 1944, Wilbert left for overseas and spent time in Rhineland,
   northern France and central Europe. He served as a corporal in the 379th
   Infantry of the U.S. Army until November 17, 1945, when he was granted an
   honorable discharge.
     Thelma was born July 8, 1923, at Isabel, Kansas, the daughter of Wm. and
   Anna (Wehling) Laverentz. She was baptized August 25, 1923, and confirmed
   December 22, 1946, at St. JOhn's. She grew up on a farm near Isabel and
   attended the Isabel school.
     After Wilbert's discharge from the Army, they moved to the farm east of
   Nashville. On August 15, 1946, a son, Gary, was born. On May 24, 1950, a 
  daughter, Donna, was born.
    Gary married Lleanna Kalb and they have one daughter, Shelley. They live
  in Nashville, Kansas, and took over the farming operation when Wilbert
  retired in 1983.
    Donna married Wes Clough and they have two daughters, Radeen and Kelly; 
  they live in Attica, Kansas. He is employed by National Carriers Trucking.
    Wilbert served on the St. John's Parish Education Board and now serves
  on the St. John's Cemetery Board. Wilbert farmed until his retirement, but
  still enjoys helping with the field work. Thelma serves on the St. John's
  Alter Guild and enjoys embroidering and doing needlepoint. They both enjoy
  time with their children and granddaughters.
