Fred Westerman & Hulda (Hensiek) Westerman
Fred Westerman was born July 18, 1901, at Rip Lake, Wisconsin, to Johanne
Fredrick and Friederike Oldenburg Westerman. Fred was baptized in the
Lutheran Church at Bremen, Kansas, and confirmed in the Nashville Lutheran
Church and attended the Lutheran School.
Hulda (Hensiek) Westerman was born September 9, 1904, in Blackburn, Missouri,
to Wm. Hensiek and Katherine Mueller Hensiek. Hulda was baptized in the Black-
burn, Missouri, Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at
Nashville, Kansas. She moved with her parents, brothers and sisters to
Nashville in 1909. They moved one and one-half miles west of Nashville where
her brother Erwin and wife live. Hulda also attended the Lutheran School.
Fred and Hulda were married in a double wedding in Nashville in the
Lutheran Church with Fred's sister Martha Westerman Dicke and Henry Dicke on
September 16, 1923. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in
1973.
Fred and Hulda were blessed with two daughters, Elenor Westerman Helmke
and Elverna Westerman Reimer, and one son, Fredrick. Fredrick lives on the
home place where his grand-mother and family moved in 1913. They have twelve
grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Fred served on the Christian Day School board and was an elder of the church.
He died September 28, 1981. Pastor Beverly conducted the burial service; he
was buried in the church cemetery.
Hulda has been a member of the Ladies Aid since 1928. They retired from the
farm in 1956 and moved to Nashville.
