Fred E. Westphal & Betty R. (Gould) Westphal
Fred Westphal was born on a farm north of Sharon, Kansas, in the fall of
1925, the youngest child of Albert Westphal and Louise (Nunnenkamp) Westphal.
He was baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Nashville,
Kansas, and attended St. John's Lutheran School and Nashville High School.
He entered the United States Marine Corp in the fall of 1943 and was
discharged in the spring of 1946. Fred married Betty Gould in the early part
of 1947 and went to Des Moines, Iowa, for two years.
When they returned to Wichita, Kansas, he went to work for a plumbing
supply company. Betty, who is a registered nurse, worked at the hospitals
and at the Wichita Clinic and later as a school nurse for the Board of
Education.
They attended a Methodist church where Betty was a member. After they
both retired in 1987, they visited the Bethany Lutheran Church, 1000 West
26th Street South, Wichita. Betty decided to join and Fred had his membership
transferred so they are now members and attend there.
They travel some and try to attend a reunion with Marine friends from World
War II when possible.
Betty has her brother Roy left from her family and Fred has his brother
Lorenz from his family. They have no children of their own.
